Article Excerpt

Both rotary-disc and conventional rolling forming lines can automate ceramic green-body production, but their layouts and best-use cases are different.

Understanding the Two Layouts

A conventional automatic rolling forming line generally arranges forming, drying, demoulding and transfer equipment along a longer production path. This format offers a wide range of models and can be configured for different capacities and product sizes. A rotary-disc line organizes mould circulation around a compact circular structure and integrates multiple operations within a smaller footprint.

When a Rotary-Disc Line Is Attractive

Huixiang’s automatic rotary disc ceramic rolling forming line was developed as a high-efficiency, intelligent and energy-saving solution. The catalogue highlights its ability to reduce labour cost, save floor space, improve efficiency and lower investment pressure. It integrates six systems: sectional clay-bar feeding, rolling forming, robotic dry/wet green-body transfer, hot-air drying and temperature control, demoulding and green-body picking, and a Linux operating system.

The rotary-disc series includes Type 25, Type 30 and Type 40 models. These configurations cover different bowl and plate sizes and use 96 or 112 moulds depending on model. The compact footprint can be useful where workshop space is limited or when an existing factory wants to add a line without constructing a long new production area.

When a Conventional Line May Be Better

Conventional lines offer broad configuration flexibility, including single-head and double-head forming options and larger model sizes. They may be preferable when the factory needs a particular product range, higher output in specific size categories, or a layout that connects with existing tunnel or secondary drying equipment.

Key Comparison Points

· Floor space: rotary-disc systems are typically selected for compact circulation; conventional lines require more linear space.

· Product range: confirm maximum bowl and plate dimensions for each model.

· Capacity: compare realistic output after drying and demoulding, not only forming speed.

· Energy: review installed power and drying energy consumption for the planned product mix.

· Changeover: consider mould replacement, programme storage and operator setup time.

· Maintenance: ensure access to forming heads, transfer mechanisms and drying components.

The Right Choice Depends on the Factory

There is no universal winner. A compact rotary-disc line may be the smarter choice for space-constrained factories and targeted product families. A conventional line may offer stronger flexibility for a wider size range or specific high-output requirements. The decision should be based on product drawings, capacity, floor plan, utilities and the customer’s existing production process.

A professional supplier should compare both options before recommending equipment. This avoids the common mistake of selecting a machine because it looks compact or fast without checking the complete production balance.
